Welcome to Volume 7 of Market It Write’s Monday Madeleines, in which we serve up some tasty goodies to help get your work week off to a running start. Don’t forget to leave a comment. We’d love your feedback.
Top 10 News Bloopers on YouTube
Most are very hilarious, but if you have youngsters nearby, you may want to ask them to leave the room or come back and play some of these later (language). Thanks to @theMediaDude for this one.
Salted Caramel Brownies
All this time on Monday Madeleines and we’ve yet to talk food. Well, here’s something to make up for that. If you weren’t hungry when you started reading this week’s issue, you will be when you see these mouthwatering photos. Actual recipe for Salted Caramel Brownies included. Thanks to @gSpout for stimulating my sweet tooth.
15 Crazy Car Air Conditioners
Has this summer been hot enough for ya? If you didn’t buy factory air with your car and had to endure this summer, you may have also tried some of these creative ways to stay cool. The heat must be affecting the brain in this case, too. The title of the post mentions 15 cars, the browser title says 23, but we counted 24 photos in this image gallery. Well, one didn’t really seem like it was an intentional add-on, so maybe 23 is accurate. Called to our attention by @ruhanirabin.
Tweeting While Driving Cited in Celebrity Surgeon Death
This story on Mashable, posted by Christina Warren talks about how Dr. Frank Ryan, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon to the stars, is believed to have been tweeting while driving when he had a fatal car accident early last week. Ryan’s ex-girlfriend told People Magazine that Dr. Ryan was texting while driving when he accidentally drove off a cliff. Ryan’s final posted tweet included a link to a twitpic of his border collie on a sand dune, which was sent via Twitter for Blackberry. Some have commented that the accident didn’t occur until more than an hour after this tweet, so maybe he didn’t get to send the last one. We’ll never really know for sure. A very sad lesson in any event.
How Your Smartphone Will Transform Your Elevator Pitch
Michael Schrage’s post on Harvard Business Review is thought provoking. He tells the story of how, on two separate occasions, entrepreneurs pulled out their smart phones in the midst of a conversation to demonstrate their companies’ products, changing those encounters from conversations to interactive experiences. Certainly a far cry from a PowerPoint presentation on a laptop. Schrage makes a good point when he says, “It’s no longer about what you say and how you say it; it’s increasingly about what you hand over.” His conclusion?
“Hand-it-over” conversations seem destined to create new genres of salesmanship and interaction. It will become an innovation best practice. In fact, people will be surprised, and disappointed, if you don’t have anything to hand over.
Hmmm… He may be right. I wonder what we could whip up for MiW on the iPhone? Thanks to @pkitano for this one.
Video of the Week
Engage: The Trailer
We found this week’s video thanks to a tweet from our friends at Junta42. The video is a trailer for a new book by Brian Solis called Engage: The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web. The trailer itself is so engaging that it makes you want to read the book, which, if half as engaging as this trailer, promises to be a very good read.
Did you enjoy this week’s features? Leave a comment and share your thoughts, your favorite tea, a madeleine recipe or even your favorite joke. No over-sharing here. (But if you somehow cross that line, we’ll let you know.)
